VP8 video codec is an open source alternative to H.264. VP8 was designed for the Internet and newer mobile devices. As such, it offers high compression efficiency and low computational complexity. Contact us to discuss your VP8 video application requirements.
VP8 is specified for use in WebRTC and supports:
- Low bandwidth
- Wide range of client devices
- Web video format
The VP8 encoder uses a hybrid transform with adaptive quantization based on decomposition of frames into square subblocks of pixels using a DCT and WHT. VP8 tends to have higher video quality than H.264 baseline for the same bitrate while it excels at low resolution and low bitrate videos.
