Engineering Services

VOCAL has over 20 years experience with DSP-based embedded product development, taking a novel concept to finished product through

  1. Designing system hardware
  2. Low-level driver and firmware development
  3. Bootstrapping/bringing up system hardware
  4. Algorithm development, implementation, and system integration
  5. Algorithm porting and optimization
  6. Extensive, proven communications software suite

VOCAL's practical knowledge brings many benefits for our customers and licensees, whether requirements are for complete product development (including hardware design, BOM, board bring-up, and custom software integrated within our lightweight network operating system), product optimization, or the integration of new functionality into an existing product.

Our proven technology has been successfully deployed in over 10 million ports shipped by our customers in the last 10 years. VOCAL has extensive familiarity with a variety of platforms and products. This includes all manner of communications applications, such as ATAs, VoIP servers and CPE, VoIP speakerphones, HPNA-based IPBXs, video surveillance, voice and data RF devices, government secure communications devices, lawful interception software, medical devices, embedded modems, and facsimile (Group 3 and T.38 Fax Relay).

On-One™

VOCAL's On-One™ DSP technology provides a significant reduction in product cost and complexity. By running optimized DSP functions and application protocols together under VOCAL's own lightweight network operating system (LANsEND), high density processing and scalability can be achieved.

For example, a DSP-based product might implement a full 4-channel ATA whereas a similar RISC processor-based product would rarely support more than a 2-channel configuration. For larger channel densities, the applications scale to the use of a full operating system such as embedded Linux. VOCAL's reference designs are scalable to a customer's specific product requirements. It is possible to integrate networking, signaling, data, and data processing on a single chip in order to provide a complete solution.

Reducing or eliminating the need for separate DSP components will result in lower BOM cost. Other benefits include improvements in power utilization, system, efficiency, future upgrade paths, and even overall product performance. Software development and integration is greatly simplified by providing a single lightweight, networked environment.

Concurrent SIP™

Concurrent SIP™ technology allows multiple SIP registrations with different SIP-based subscriptions and multiple VoIP service providers. Customers benefit from VOCAL's robust SIP stack which interoperates seamlessly with most VoIP providers and products. This also makes it possible to customize ring tones, display options, and even dial plans based upon the particular VoIP provider.

Concurrent VoIP™

Concurrent VoIP™ dual stack capability allows both SIP and MGCP to be used seamlessly as per configured dial plan. This may work in tandem with Concurrent SIP™ in order to provide the most possible VoIP provider flexibility.

Our Software

VOCAL has repeated demonstrated its extensive development experience with critical aspects of real-time embedded systems. Our software maintains high QoS and low system latency even under network stress with packet delay and jitter, while working within existing memory, MIPs, and power constraints. It is optimized to meet small memory footprint requirements, high QOS standards, maximize performance, or a best-case balance between these conflicting requirements.

VOCAL's highly experienced engineers will work smoothly with your engineering staff to develop new technologies and integrate licensed components into your product. Our expertise with embedded systems and firmware integration means significant cost-savings, with quicker development time and products that not only work, but work better.
